YSL Beauty Block Party Madrid: event production by Novelty Spain

The YSL Beauty Block Party in Madrid brought together professionals from the fashion and beauty industries in a concept inspired by New York-style block parties. To bring this edition to life, Novelty developed the technical AV production in Madrid, delivering full audiovisual production across two locations: the makeup room at the Hotel Edition and the main party at Café Comercial.

Both spaces were transformed with a strong urban visual language and scenography based on concrete textures, repeated graphics, and an integrated DJ set within the environment.

In this article, we present a detailed overview of the audiovisual approach applied to a fashion and beauty environment, how two venues with different functions were unified, the lighting and sound solutions implemented in a historic building, and the atmospheric elements that shaped the overall experience.

What Does Audiovisual Production Bring to Fashion and Beauty Events?

Audiovisual production for brand events plays a key role in shaping how guests perceive and experience a fashion or beauty event. Every technical decision—lighting, sound, effects, and control—directly influences how brand identity is interpreted and how visitors interact with the space.

In fashion events and beauty events, lighting is used to guide attention toward specific areas while reinforcing the visual codes of the campaign. Sound defines the rhythm of the environment and sustains the overall energy, especially when the format includes DJ sets or live performances.

Subtle effects, such as haze, help balance spatial depth and enhance lighting consistency throughout the venue.

The combination of premium sound and lighting design creates a cohesive environment where guests can move freely, explore products, engage with activations, and experience the brand seamlessly across every touchpoint.

How Do You Transform Two Spaces into a Single Brand Experience?

Coordinating Hotel Edition and Café Comercial required a technical design that ensured both visual and functional continuity. While each space served a different purpose, both needed to feel part of the same brand universe.

At Hotel Edition, the makeup area was designed with uniform lighting, stable power distribution, and dedicated lighting points for photography. The objective was to create a controlled environment suitable for makeup sessions and content production, eliminating any color inconsistencies.

At Café Comercial, the technical intervention focused on the transformation of a historic venue for events, adapting a heritage space into an urban-inspired setting. Lighting for the façade, kiosk, and product displays—combined with graphic elements applied to columns and walls—defined the visual identity. The scenography featured concrete-style surfaces and modular structures that integrated the DJ booth and sound system.

Consistency across both venues was achieved through a shared lighting palette, unified visual accents, and a technical narrative that seamlessly connected preparation and celebration within a single creative concept.

How Do You Light a Luxury Event in a Historic Venue Without Altering Its Architecture?

Lighting at Café Comercial, a venue of historical significance, was designed to respect the original architecture while introducing the event’s urban aesthetic.

Wireless systems and non-invasive rigging solutions were used to illuminate key areas without affecting columns, walls, or decorative moldings.

For the façade, Astera AX9 units were positioned on the ground and balconies to create an even light wash without the need for structural anchoring. The central kiosk featured Astera Titan Tubes mounted with magnetic supports, while product displays were highlighted using a combination of Astera AX5 and PixelBrick fixtures to ensure precise emphasis and consistent color temperature.

Inside the venue, lighting was distributed using portable fixtures with moderate intensity levels, preventing glare and preserving the building’s character.

This approach ensured that fashion event lighting in Madrid enhanced the space while fully preserving its original architectural features.

What Sound System Defined the Block Party Atmosphere?

The sound system at Café Comercial was designed to capture the essence of a block party, featuring a visible speaker tower equipped with Pioneer and Meyer Sound systems that provided both strong visual impact and high acoustic performance.

System control was handled via a Yamaha DM3 console and ULXD wireless microphones, while the fixed sound system on the upper floor was seamlessly integrated through a non-invasive connection routed via the entrance and beneath the staircase.

A sound level limit of 95 dB ensured appropriate volume for an indoor venue while respecting the building’s architectural characteristics.

This setup delivered a consistent and immersive audio environment aligned with the event’s creative direction and the standards of premium sound and lighting for events.

Special Effects: When Detail Defines the Atmosphere

At Café Comercial, special effects were designed to complement the environment without overpowering the historic setting.

Haze was subtly introduced behind the sound system and calibrated at a very low level—just enough to add depth, enhance light beams, and create a visual texture aligned with the urban concept.

This effect was synchronized with the lighting across the kiosk, façade, and dancefloor, creating a unified chromatic experience throughout the venue.

The combination of lighting, haze, and graphic elements transformed the space into a cohesive YSL Beauty Block Party environment, preserving the building’s architectural integrity while allowing guests to move naturally through the space.

How Do You Create a Memorable Brand Experience?

Creating a memorable brand experience means ensuring that every technical decision supports a single, cohesive narrative. At the YSL Beauty Block Party Madrid, this narrative was built around a clear urban aesthetic, lighting that highlighted key moments, and sound that defined the rhythm of the event.

The visual language was developed through repeated elements across the venue: concrete-style surfaces, extended graphics applied to columns and walls, and a DJ booth fully integrated into the scenography.

This continuity guided guests seamlessly from the preparation phase at Hotel Edition to the celebration at Café Comercial.

Lighting, sound, and special effects maintained a consistent atmosphere across both spaces, connecting them through a single creative concept. Every interaction—arriving, exploring, dancing, or creating content—became part of a unified experience aligned with YSL Beauté’s identity and supported by high-level luxury event technical production in Madrid.
